Lighting the hallway with chandeliers
In the hallway, a chandelier becomes the centerpiece, so size and hanging height matter as much as style. Hallways are passageways, so lighting should be even, glare-free and compact enough to keep headroom clear, while still giving the space some character.
How to choose hallway chandeliers
- Clearance: In a foyer or hallway, keep at least 7 feet between the floor and the bottom of the chandelier.
- Ceiling height: Allow about 2.5 to 3 inches of fixture height per foot of ceiling height, and keep at least 7 feet of clearance where people walk underneath.
- Color temperature: Warm white (2700K to 3000K) for relaxing spaces; 3000K to 3500K where you need to see detail.
